George Patrick & his buddy Garland
World War II - George Patrick served in the United States Navy. He and his buddy Garland were due to ship out but for some reason, George was called back. (We don't know what that reason was.) The ship was hit and his buddy Garland was killed. Many years later George named his first born son, Garland.

Rich Carter died in the coal mines at Benedict in 1951, leaving behind a wife and 10 children. Rich was born 1900 and looks very young in this photo, probably taken in the early 1920's.

Victoria Cody 1890 - 6 August 1971

Ancil Cody & Victoria Shepherd were married in Lee County, Virginia on 20 October 1903.Victoria lied about her age; she was 13.


Clarence Woodard
Clarence Woodard

Clarence was the son of Mary Lee "Ma" Woodard. He bought the store from her and did most of the work that needed to be done from his wheelchair. After his death, son-in-law and daughter (Aubra & Cleata Woodard Dean) ran the store.

 


Anna & Noah Stidham
Noah & Anna Stidham

The Stidhams lived in Monarch, VA and were the parents of 18 children. Noah worked in the mines at VIC.

George Gibson
George Gibson

Riding a wheelbarrow through the street of Middlesboro. When Ike won the election, George got a ride!
Lived on Graveyard Hill in St. Charles, just out the road from the Scotts, Lanninghams, Tabors and Hesters. Drove a taxi cab, which for many years was a Corvair.
