The Admant Missionary Baptist Church was organized in the year of 1900. The first building of logs stood approximately 300 yards north of the present site. The first pastor was the Rev. W. M. Cooper, who served on a circuit riding basis. The first deacons were A. N. Pennington, George Stapleton and J. J. Stapleton. The first clerk was J.J. Stapleton. The first trustees were J. R. Harber, B. F. Harber and Worley Dean. (*Note I wonder if the trustees came later? Don't think these men would be that old.)
In early 1901 the first building was destroyed by fire. A new building was then erected on or near the present site. While construction was in progress the church body met in the new school building on Straight Creek near the Pocket Settlement. The first services in the new building on February 15, 1902 with the Rev. Richard Kirk.
From 1900 to 1932 a total of five men served the church as circuit riding pastors. These were Rev. W. M. Cooper, Rev. Richard Kirk, Rev. T. B. Forster, Rev. J. E. Witt and Rev. J. P. Herndon.
On July 4, 1938 a new building was begun and completed shortly after with the first services being held in August, 1938. Rev. Clinton Green was serving as interim pastor. Among the first services held in the new building was the Annual Meeting of the Powell River Association of Baptist. In this sanctuary, many people were won to the Lord and much fellowship was enjoyed by all the people.
In the year of 1943, the church called their first full-time pastor, Rev. W. H. Parrott, who served the church until 1949. During his ministry a pastorium was erected. This pastorium is now serving as part of our educational wing.
Our present pastorium is now located at 702 Summitt Avenue, Pennington Gap, Virginia. This present pastorium was completed in November, 1978.
As the people were praying and working and the church continuing to grow, a need was realized for a larger sanctuary. In December, 1979, the ground breaking ceremony was conducted for the new sanctuary, and the new building was begun in January, 1980.
The first services in our new and present santuary were held on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1980, with Rev. Kenneth Ellis serving as pastor. In July, 1980, the old building was torn down for expansion of our new and completed sanctuary.
